In the Town of North Scottsdale, Arizona settled in 1870...
Adobe Ranch evolved in concept and development in 2004 in the western Town of North
Scottsdale, Arizona settled in 1870. A town with frontier western heritage beginning before
the overland stagecoach crossed Apache lands at the creek on its journey to California. A
town where the U.S. Calvary bivouacked down by the cottonwoods before Arizona was a
state. A land with vistas of vast mountain ranges bracing up big skies and starry nights and
breathtaking sunsets of vivid intense color. Trappers and miners roamed and explored the
mountains and struck it rich. Large cattle ranches evolved including the Cartwrights,
requiring large numbers of cowboys to work and ride the range. Lon Megargee was one of
those cowboys who went on to be a well-known artist of the Southwest.
Cave Creek today is a town with many of the sons, daughters, grandchildren of these
pioneers who remember and embrace this lifestyle and western spirit. A town where
cowboys still ride their horses to town. A main street with turn-of-the-century western
saloons and a true Mexican cantina built around a natural spring, “El Encanto”, a 4-star in
Arizona cuisine. The adobe Tonto Bar and Grill sits on the site of the U.S. Calvary
barracks. In the 1950s someone thought main street, Cave Creek Road, needed a stop sign
at Schoolhouse Road. It’s still there and it’s the only one.
The weather and awesome beauty of this amazing western landscape is so captivating Tom
Van Dyke and his wife Mary bought a small, 50-year old ranch in the heart of town on Arroyo
Ridge, foothills to Tonto National Forest and Spur Cross Ranch Preserve. Inspiring views of
the Seven Sisters Mountain Range are on the west; the Continentals on the North and East
and Black Mountain on the South.
Adobe Ranch looks forward to welcoming you.
